What Does the Proposed EU Regulation Mean for Business?

September 16, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am PDT

Event Navigation

Part of the Privacy Insight Series. The European Commission's proposal for a General Data Protection Regulation represents the most significant global development in data protection law in the last twenty years. As the trilogue negotiations come to a close and the final shape of the Regulation becomes clear it is time to take stock of what this means for your business and ensure you have the budget, tools and plan in place to respond.

It is clear that the new Regulation will significantly change the landscape of EU privacy and data protection in several key areas, including: substantial new penalties of up to €100 million, or 2-5% of annual worldwide turnover, whichever is greater; increased territorial scope, capturing many businesses including many outside the EU; tighter requirements for obtaining valid consent to the processing of personal data; new restrictions on profiling and targeted advertising; new data breach reporting obligations; direct legal compliance obligations for “data processors;” and extended data protection rights for individuals, including the “right to be forgotten.”

In this webinar in the TRUSTe Fall/Winter Privacy Insight Series, leading policy makers and practitioners will share their insights on the final requirements in the proposed EU General Data Protection Regulation and what businesses need to do to prepare for changes ahead.
