How Good Privacy Practices Can Help Prepare for a Data Breach

August 13, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am PDT

Event Navigation

Part of the Privacy Insight Series. As the cost and frequency of data privacy breaches continue to rise, the question companies are facing is not if, but when a data breach will occur and how to prepare. According to a recent IBM and Ponemon report, the cost of a data breach in 2015 is $3.8 million, representing a 23% increase from 2013 while the number of data breaches reached an all-time high of 783 in 2014. In addition to facing higher costs, companies are losing more customers following a data breach, with the average abnormal churn rate increasing by 15 percent.

Given the costs there is a strong incentive for organisations to ensure they have an appropriate privacy framework in place, both to prevent privacy breaches and to respond to any data and privacy breaches that may occur. The privacy framework should be part of a robust overall information governance framework to manage all information and data throughout an organisation.

This webinar is the first in our Fall/Winter 2015 Privacy Insight Series and will examine the costs of a data breach occurring, the role of privacy and information governance in preparing for a possible breach and provide a step by step process of building a incident response plan to prepare to ensure that every relevant employee knows what to do in the event of a data breach.
