TrustArc at IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2019: Event Recap

May 15, 2019

TrustArc had the pleasure of sponsoring, speaking and exhibiting at IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2019 this month in Washington D.C. With over 4,000 attendees, 300 sessions and 60 exhibitors, the Summit was buzzing with hundreds of privacy professionals, many of whom traveled to the D.C. Summit from all corners of the globe. This year’s Summit was the perfect setting for privacy-related education, guidance, inspiration and connections that spotlighted the big picture of data protection.

TrustArc SVP Product Management, Michael Lin, took over the Little Big Stage on Thursday morning to discuss how businesses use the TrustArc Platform to automate and manage global privacy compliance for regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, LGPD and many others. Michael introduced the newly released enhancements of the TrustArc award-winning platform. These enhancements included a set of dynamic components for regulatory news & insights, risk scores, program status, and other privacy program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) integrated into a unified privacy program management dashboard.

Josh Harris, TrustArc Director of International Regulatory Affairs, was a panelist on Thursday’s session discussing “A Convention 108-CBPR Guide to Trans-Border Data Flows.” He was joined by fellow panelists Sophie Kwasny (Council of Europe), Florence Raynal (CNIL), and Gabriella Zanfir-Fortuna (Future of Privacy Forum). The panel discussed updates, insights on common features, and tips for a sound global privacy program. You can learn more about APEC CBPR and PRP Privacy Certifications here.

TrustArc, SVP Privacy Intelligence and General Counsel, Hilary Wandall wrapped up the Summit with her session on “GDPR, CCPA, and Beyond – Benchmarking Data Across Regulation Compliance.” Hilary discussed the question: how can companies survive in this new multi-regulation privacy reality and efficiently build, implement, and manage their privacy operations? Her session explored the current state of cross-regulation requirements, looking at common threads among different laws from GDPR to Singapore to Canada to Nigeria.  She did so while explaining how to operationalize privacy in a way that makes it easier for people managing and overseeing privacy programs to handle the various program and practices adjustments needed to account for the differences among the laws and standards that may be applicable to an organization.

In the exhibit hall, TrustArc privacy experts were busy discussing privacy compliance challenges with attendees at the interactive TrustArc booth. Attendees participated in live demos and learned how TrustArc simplifies compliance through privacy-tech solutions. Booth visitors were able to unwind using our squishy dolphin stress-relievers and felt additional relief knowing our “Essential Guide to the CCPA” would help guide their CCPA compliance efforts. Two lucky attendees went home with Wireless Charging Apple AirPods after winning the TrustArc Free Drawing. Congrats to the happy winners!
